Oklahoma is on fire and 378,000 acres have burned
Oklahoma is on fire -- or it seems that way. And so are surrounding states. Last week, 400,000 acres burned in a massive fire on the border of Oklahoma and Kansas. That's almost the area of New York City!

This week's biggest fire in Oklahoma has burned 58,000 acres already and evacuated large portions of two counties. OKCFOX says "That area of Oklahoma saw wind gusts of 50 mph on Tuesday, which caused the power lines to arc into the dry grass, sparking the fire."

The image above compares the MODIS satellite from March 3 to April 4, and the fires have been so big you can see burn scars for large areas of the states.
Through April 1st, over 776,000 acres had been burned, much more than the 10-year average of 450,000. The fire danger continues today.
