O.T.: Universe, Same as it Ever Was
ASTRONOMY NEWS ALERT:
The press is abuzz this weekend with the discovery that "dark energy" in space has been around for at least 9 billion years (NASA Article | Space.com). The Hubble telescope has now measured space 9 billion years ago (because the further you can see out, the farther back in time you can see out, due to the speed of light -- Fascinating stuff.).
Dark Energy is the name that scientists have given to the force which takes up 70% of the universe and which keeps it expanding outward forever. In other words, they don't really understand it, but they can prove its effects. The illustration below gives the general idea.
