Models Agree... On Snow Shifting South
UPDATE: Unfortunately I cannot provide individual forecasts, please check your AccuWeather.com forecast for more details.
Good News: The models agree. Bad News (for snow lovers): They all agree that the storm will move out to sea instead of up the coast (so the big city snow dream from yesterday is mostly dead) and snow will be concentrated over the Appalachians and other areas of the mid-Atlantic that will be cold enough. There's still time for them to change back but I think most meteorologists will say that it's much more likely that models will shift out to sea than veer back to the coast.
Here are the overnight model maps:
NMM Model does not go out far enough to see the snow in Virginia & Maryland
What may be a more exciting story with this storm is the snow in eastern Texas, the Deep South, and the Carolinas. Growing up in the North Carolina foothills, I can tell you that there is no guarantee of snow in December outside of the high mountains around Boone.
The snow in Texas and Louisiana is not well represented on the maps above because it had already melted in those snapshots. Here's the GFS's best guess on that:
Seeing snow flurries to the Gulf Coast this time of year (as insinuated by the white areas on the map above) is rare, though there was a significant snowstorm in these areas last December 12th.
We may have a video with Joe Bastardi later today on AccuWeather.com... meanwhile he says in his blog on our Pro site this morning:
(He also said something else interesting about Christmas which I'll post in "J's Breaking News" at right in a little while).
