Model Hype on Thanksgiving Storm
Even though the GFS seems to have given up (late this week) on hopes for a major East Coast winter storm on Thanksgiving, I wonder how much news the system might still make. Maybe NYC isn't pounded by snow but if you look at the Winter Model maps today, the DGEX says that a significant amount of heavy snow will be falling in the Midwest on Thanksgiving morning.
The DGEX doesn't think more than flurries will make it east of Indiana, but the GFS still thinks that some moderate snow could be on the backside of the cold front, from Pennsylvania northward as of Thanksgiving afternoon (see below), swinging up through New England by dark.
I don't know about you, but I'm planning on travelling on Thanksgiving, albeit locally in Central Pennsylvania, and this could disrupt my plans. You may recall two years ago here we had a White Thanksgiving, then last year we had freezing rain overnight before Thanksgiving and Black Friday Black Ice.
