HYPE: Long-Range Heat Wave, East Near 100?

By Jesse Ferrell, AccuWeather meteorologist

I couldn't help but notice the 90's in my AccuWeather.com forecast near the end of the two-week period, so I thought I'd see what the models are saying.

15-Day Temp Graph From AccuWeather.com Planner

ABOUT THE HYPE: Use at your own risk! It's all for fun. Forecast Models predict outlandish things, which occasionally come true. This is just the hype; see other bloggers for pontification. All images shown are from AccuWeather.com Professional. If you see other hype, email me.

The overnight of the GFS predicts some outlandish heat next week for the beginning of Summer. Yes, it could just be the Weird Run [JessePedia] talking -- last night's 00Z run did not show this and we've yet to see what today's 12Z run will say. Here's a map of GFS High Temperatures for the 26th:

And yes, I realize that it is summer now so hot times, summer in the city are not unusual, but if it makes it to 100 in Washington, D.C. that would be 15 degrees above normal for next week. The heat continues and morphs northeast on the 27th...

Even on the last day of the forecast, mid-90s are speeding towards the Northeast from Kentucky.

However, the European model lends some credence to this idea, showing low to mid 90's in the mid-Atlantic next Friday (the 22nd) and Saturday at 7 PM (which probably means highs in the mid to upper 90's. (As part of a commercial company, I'm not allowed to redistribute the ECMWF maps for free, so you'll have to trust me on that).
