Huskies and The Snow Drought
Denver is a good place for Siberian Huskies this week.

Here in Central PA, not so much.
"Where's the snow, Daddy?" My Siberian Husky Maya [JessePedia], during our only snow event this season, which dropped a dusting on State College on December 5th.
Maya, who was born this Spring, is patiently waiting for her first major snow event to frolic in. But she's not the only snow lover who's frustrated. The local NWS [JessePedia] office issued this statement:
It has certainly been a disappointing December across the Northeast.
The NWS went on to point out that:
In Harrisburg, PA (the nearest climate station):
- The normal amount of snow in a season is 34.6 inches (NCDC)
- Only 5.7" of snow fell in 2006, setting a new record for the least snowy calendar year ever.
- That amount was in February; all other months were snowless (only a trace of snow).
- For this winter season so far, they have only recorded a trace of snow.
- The least snowy winter season was 1937-38 when only 8.8 inches fell.
In Williamsport, PA (another close location):
- The normal amount of snow in a season is 41.4 inches (NCDC)
- Only 9.7" of snow fell in 2006, setting a new record for the least snowy calendar year ever.
- For this winter season so far, they have only recorded a trace of snow.
- The least snowy winter season was 1988-89 when only 7inches fell.
A similar situation is unfolding across the Northeast, as you can see from the map above, even as far west as La Crosse, Wisconsin, where this December ranks 12th and the year ranks 9th for least snowy.
