Good Idea: Cut Trees At Levees
According to NOLA.com, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans has decided it would be bets to cut down all trees near levees in the city. They'll leave 4-foot trunks for stability, but will remove most of the trees so that winds or flooding don't uproot them, causing levee breaks (at least two investigations found this happened during Katrina).

Government and independent engineers disagreed Thursday when pressed by a U.S. House subcommittee on whether the current state of area levees made it safe for residents to rebuild in parts of the city that flooded worst during Hurricane Katrina.
