Full European ECMWF Model Available on Pro!
Nearly ten years ago, I helped AccuWeather.com launch our AccuWeather.com Professional service. I am now proud to announce the biggest upgrade since then: The full ECMWF model!
That's right, it's the most accurate worldwide computer forecast model that you can't get anywhere else. In the world of meteorological data, the playing field is pretty flat, with a couple of notable exceptions where the entity generating the data provides it exclusively at high cost. This is one of those - until now. We are now redistributing the model maps at costs that are tens to hundreds of times lower than the competitors.
So what does this mean to you? It means that if you subscribe to Pro today (there is a 30-day free trial!) you can have an edge over your fellow forecasters or armchair meteorologists by accessing a 10-day forecast that they can't (including "human-readable" variables such as pressure, rain, snow, and severe weather indexes). A complete list of variables, regions and hours is available on the AccuWeather.com Forums.
Who is the ECMWF?
To quote from their website about their organization (who produces the "European" ECMWF model): "The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF, the Centre) is an independent intergovernmental organisation supported by 31 States."
Is Their Model Really More Accurate?
Yes, it is demonstrably more accurate than the U.S. GFS long-range model and the UKMET model, according to an ongoing study by the U.S. government that I reported on last year. Here are some quotes from long-range expert Joe Bastardi:
