Europe Heat Wave, Sicily 100 Plus Overnight!

Italy has been suffering through an extreme heat wave this week. Google News says that 38 have perished in the European heat wave, factories have been shut down in Italy, Greece reached a record power demand, and many forest fires have been sparked.

Chris Burt, author of "Extreme Weather", a comprehensive weather book to which I frequently refer (2007 Edition is out!), sends the following information:

Here is an article about it from the Meteo Giornale weather service in Italy (translate to English via Google). It talks about temperatures as high as 46 Celsius (115 Fahrenheit) and an email trail I was forwarded added this information:
