Could the Johnstown Flood Repeat on its Anniversary?
UPDATE 7/21/10: A second event with over 8 inches of rain has plagued northern Kentucky overnight.
UPDATE: 7/20/10: Severe flooding, with over 8 inches of rain, occurred on the Iowa / Missouri border last night. As a result, the North River at Palmyra rose from 4 to 16 feet, and is projected to go to 26.6 feet, way above the record stage of 21.5! Nearby Hannibal, MO is experiencing major flooding according to WGEM. Stay tuned; there may be more flooding this week.
ORIGINAL POST: Joe Bastardi says in his blog today on Pro.AccuWeather.com that he believes the weather pattern this week is very similar to the Great Johnstown Flood of July 20th, 1977. You may recall I did extensive research on the all three Johnstown Flood causes in my blog entry "What Caused the Johnstown Floods?." Below is a picture of the MCC (thunderstorm complex) that is said to have caused the 1977 disaster:

Joe is careful to say that it probably won't be Johnstown, and it would just be too ironic to be on the anniversary date, which is tomorrow. But someone, somewhere in the northeast quadrant of the county may get a big flood this week.
