Could Hanna Rain Rival Floyd Flooding?
UPDATE (FRIDAY): Our first numerical rain map is out for Hanna:
ORIGINAL REPORT (THURSDAY):If you compare the AccuWeather Hanna forecast with Hurricane Floyd in 1999, you'll see that it's taking a similar track. This has some people thinking that Hanna may deliver rainfall amounts and flooding to rival Floyd [WikiPedia].
The truth is, the rain will be heavy, but Floyd is hard to beat - we're talking more than 10 inches of rain over a wide area, up to 20 inches! AccuWeather.com Professional's Joe Bastardi [BIO] (PRO USERS READ NOW | 30-DAY FREE TRIAL) said in his blog:
Of course, 20 inches of rain might be welcome in the Carolinas, because some parts are that much in deficit when you look over the last year of precip. But like with Fay, 20 inches at once might wipe out the drought mathematically, but will cause more trouble than it's worth.
UPDATE (9PM): Here's one last look at the storm lineup today - from left to right: Hanna, Ike, Josephine.
