Camille Vs. TD #5 Remnants
Today is the anniversary of the great Hurricane Camille that caused immense damage on the Gulf Coast and even brought the worst floods ever from a Tropical system in the state of Virginia (see our Anniversary story for more detailed information).
It's hard to ignore the fact that today's model tracks for the remnants of Tropical Depression #5 are following a similar track...
And the precipitation forecast from the GFS computer model (as well as the ECWMF "Euro" model which I'm not allowed to show here due to contractual issues) is strikingly similar to the rainfall map from Camille (see below):
Of course, Camille was a huge storm and TD #5 is so weak it can't even be classified anymore. And, the weather situation may turn out to be a lot different (Camille's Virginia rains were caused by upsloping when her remnants combined with a front).
Should Virginians or others in the Southeast be worried? I'll leave that forecast interpretation up to other meteorologists who are more in-tune with the AccuWeather.com forecast, and I'll post a link here if we end up doing a news story about this.
