Austin Outflow Boundary And Birds on Radar
ORIGINAL ENTRY:
Blog reader "Z" pointed out a strong Outflow Boundary [WikiPedia] yesterday passing through Austin, Texas, and I captured a movie of it with the assistance of AccuWeather.com RadarPlus. Click here to download* a high-res version; play a slower, less fun version below.
The temperature at Austin dropped from 102 to 84 after the boundary came through (pretty impressive considering there were no storms there!)
Not only was it a great example of a single, long outflow boundary forming from a series of smaller outflow boundaries, the radar animation into the evening shows some cool examples of birds taking off, starting first to the west of Austin, then all over the map, something I have blogged about before.
P.S.: "Z" also says it's been unusually hot in Texas this summer. I've asked Frank Strait (PREMIUM | PRO) if he can cover that in a future blog entry over on his Southern States blog. Meanwhile, here's a statement from the NWS about June being Austin's third-warmest ever at one station, and warmest ever (since 1854!) at another.
