An Attempt at Fireworks Photos
As many of you know, my family just moved into a new house in May. As a result, we weren't sure how our view for the State College Fireworks would be last night. We used to live on the other side of town, about 2 miles away from the stadium, and we had a decent view, though trees were encroaching during the last few years.
Turns out, our new view is much worse. We are now 3.5 miles from the Stadium and only the mid- and high-level fireworks could be seen over nearby houses and trees. Nonetheless, I took this opportunity to snap some photos with my new Kodak Z650 Easyshare camera in "Fireworks Mode". This mode of the camera holds the shutter open for two seconds.
You can tell the difference below in the "Blurry" set vs. the "Central PA" set (where I found my tripod and started using it). At that far away, I was dipping into the digital zoom so holding the camera steady was a must. Even though I moved the camera in the "Blurry" photos, it created some neat effects (or, at least that's what I tell myself).
If we ever get thunderstorms here that aren't in the middle of the night, I'll be trying out the 2-second hold shutter, and beyond, in what I'll call "Lightning Mode."
