A frigid New Year's Eve and start to 2018
The ball dropped in New York City during the second coldest New Year's Eve ever last night, at 9 degrees F, 2 degrees below the AccuWeather forecast, with a wind chill of -4. The number two spot was previously held by New Year's Eve in 1962.

Across the Midwest and Northeast, it was downright frigid. In some locations, New Year's Eve celebrations were canceled.

***Mt. Washington (KMWN) was -29 yesterday, -24 today.

Here in State College, Pennsylvania, I experienced what (I think) was the third coldest temperature I've ever seen, -9 F, bested only by -13 in 2011 and -15 in 2009 at my house. Temperatures in the state fell as low as -18.
