Warmer for now, but cold returns this weekend

We're out of the harsh, cold weather pattern for now, but we will see one more good cold snap starting this weekend. The front leading the cold air south might be able to produce a few strong storms, but more importantly, many areas will see a needed soaking rain. The return of the cold air could lead to some areas seeing ice or snow around the middle of next week, but overall, this cold shot won't be as harsh nor as long lasting as the situation we saw over the last couple of weeks. Warmer air returns again later next week and it will likely stick around for a while.

A storm moving in later this week will cause heavy rain that can lead to flooding, especially in areas that had very heavy snow this past weekend.

Heavy snow and ice is headed to the Carolinas and Virginia while the rest of the South sees soaking rain and thunderstorms.

A storm crossing the South this weekend will cause snow and ice in some areas and a potentially historic snowstorm in the North Carolina mountains and foothills.
