Dry weather this year has set the stage for wildfires to develop across the southern Balkan Peninsula, including Greece.
This particularly wildfire has already shut down a major roadway and canceled train services in the region.
Dozens of homes are thought to have been damaged or destroyed by the blaze, according to Reuters.
While hot, dry weather and gusty winds have allowed the blaze to grow in size and made it hard to control, there is a small chance for a shower or thunderstorm to provide some aid in the next 24 to 48 hours.
If a thunderstorm develops nearby but doesn't provide rainfall to the fire stricken area, gusty winds could further hinder firefighting efforts.
This region is prone to deadly wildfires in the past and continued hot and dry weather in the coming weeks will continue a high risk for additional wildfires.
