Long-range pattern clues for April
Widespread chill will likely persist across western Canada and the interior western United States. into the second week of April with a broad trough in place. This will lead to more opportunities for snow in the western mountains. Ski and snowboard season in western Canada and especially the western U.S. for an extended period, likely through at least the early summer.
A high-latitude blocking pattern will likely keep the jet stream more suppressed to the south during mid-April, leading to slightly below-average temperatures for a large portion of the lower 48 states and southern Canada while temperatures stay above average across much of northern Canada.
