U.S. may have to spend $400-billion on seawalls by 2040

According to a recent report from the Center for Climate Integrity (CCI), the U.S. will have to spend $416 billion on seawalls in the next 20 years. The cost figure is based on a scenario created by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The CCI also studied thousands of miles of coastline to determine areas that are at risk of being at least 15% underwater by 2040. Seas are estimated to rise up to three feet higher by 2100, as the planet heats up and land-based ice melts.
