Major storm with snow and ice on the way for Houston
Soon after Arctic air enters the region later this weekend, a storm will form near the western Gulf of Mexico and trigger a substantial amount of snow and ice for the Houston area from Monday night to Tuesday. While sleet and freezing rain would cut down on snow accumulation, a heavy amount of freezing rain can lead to a buildup of ice on trees and power lines, with the risk of widespread power outages. Regardless, dangerous travel conditions will develop from the storm and may linger for a couple of days in the storm’s wake due to lingering Arctic air and little natural melting. The severe cold in the wake of the storm can lead to extended power outages and the risk of freezing and bursting pipes.
