A storm will swing up from the southern United States and bring a period of accumulating snow to New York City from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night. From 2 to 4 inches is forecast for the five boroughs with greater amounts in New Jersey, southeastern upstate New York and southwestern Connecticut. However, a slight northward shift could bring less snow and more rain into the city. Roads and sidewalks can become slippery soon after the storm begins. Areas made wet by the snow may freeze on Monday as winds increase and temperatures plummet with a long-lasting blast of Arctic air and dangerously cold conditions for next week.
