Rainfall and thunderstorms from Isaias are expected across the Atlanta area this weekend.
Flooding of streets, poor-drainage areas and other low-lying locations may occur during periods of intense rainfall, making travel hazardous. Flood-prone neighborhoods, small streams and urban locations will be most susceptible to rising water, with localized flash flooding possible where the heaviest rain persists.
There is also the risk of severe thunderstorm activity in the area from Saturday afternoon to Sunday. Some of the storms will bring the risk of tornadoes, which could be obscured by heavy rain. Gusty winds in lieu of tornadoes are likely and may occur in one or two squalls associated with bands of tropical moisture.
Due to flooding rainfall, storm surge and damaging winds, Isaias is a 2 on the AccuWeather RealImpact™ Scale for Hurricanes in the United States. The RealImpact™ Scale is a 6-point scale, with ratings of less than one and 1 to 5, that accounts for not only wind speed, but also flooding rain, storm surge and economic damage and loss.
