A rapidly strengthening storm will bring heavy snow to southern Virginia with a blizzard possible in southeastern Virginia, while the Washington, D.C., areas will be on the northwestern flank of the accumulating snow this weekend. At this time 1-3 inches of snow is most likely, beginning Saturday night and lasting into Sunday. The exact accumulation is highly dependent on the track of the storm. A storm that hugs the mid-Atlantic coast could bring heavier snow to the city, while a storm that drift farther to the east may cause little to no snow to fall. Strong winds near the coast, combined with high astronomical tides will lead to moderate coastal flooding.
