Award category ‘Best Overall Content; Weather News’ celebrating best-of-the-best in high quality, informative programming and content

AccuWeather Global Weather Center, March 31, 2021 —AccuWeather TV Network was honored this week by trade publisher Cablefax with an industry award celebrating its achievements in producing superior weather content for cable television.  AccuWeather TV Network was recognized for “Best Overall Content; Weather News for Hurricane Delta Eye Wall Live Coverage.” AccuWeather TV Network was also a finalist for “Best Live Virtual Event for AccuWeather Ready: 2020 Hurricane Season During COVID-19.”

The AccuWeather TV Network, which reaches millions of viewers via Spectrum TV, DIRECTV, AT&T TV NOW, Verizon Fios, Philo, fuboTV and Frontier cable, is a 24/7 weather news channel that delivers the latest breaking weather news coverage and local forecast information as well as compelling and dynamic weather news content, including hyper-local forecasts, advanced severe weather warnings and weather preparedness tips and tools. After several years of developing and refining our offering, 2020 has been a year of significant growth. Today, the AccuWeather TV Network is available in 36 million+ households and growing.

In 2015, on the strength of a robust, award-winning digital media business and the proven Superior Accuracy of its forecasts, AccuWeather entered the national cable news arena by launching the AccuWeather TV Network on FiOS and Frontier in 5 million homes. Refining and expanding its forecasting coverage, AccuWeather TV Network then launched on DIRECTV in 2018 and in 2020, in a market saturated with content, launched on fubotv; the first VMVPD offering of AccuWeather TV Network’s programming to a younger digital audience.

Growth continued to increase heading to into 2021 with a launch on Spectrum TV and Philo, after six years, backed by an expert team of meteorologists and broadcasters, AccuWeather is and has been the leader in global weather forecasting and the “go to” authoritative source for weather events anywhere in the world.

“We are delighted and honored to be recognized by Cablefax for our expertise, dedication to innovation and our capabilities as a network serving millions of households,” said Sarah Katt, GM, AccuWeather TV Network. This is especially important during severe weather events, when keeping families safe is paramount. We are committed to innovation and ongoing adoption of emerging technologies to meet our customers wherever they are.”

Trish Mikita, Vice President, Content, credits much of the AccuWeather TV Network’s growth to the superior content developed and presented by its talented journalists, producers, and meteorologists.

“Demand for weather-focused programming has grown, and we continue to serve a broad audience that values high-quality programming delivered on multiple platforms, based on the expertise of the best experts in the world, said Mikita.

AccuWeather’s award-winning coverage included live reporting from the Louisiana coast as Hurricane Delta’s eyewall made landfall. Even as hurricane-force winds pummeled the team reporting from the field, AccuWeather conveyed critical and specific details about the storm, all while its cameras, captured a powerful sense of the storm’s awe and strength for AccuWeather’s audience. This fully immersive, visual experience came alongside an on-screen double-box displaying radar of the storms track and intensity.

The AccuWeather TV Network was also recently recognized with a 2020 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for Best Environment/Science – News Single Story or Series; Cynopsis Media “Best of the Best Awards” in 2019 in the categories of Best-Ad Supported Cable Network and Best Short Form Content; in 2018 for Best Short Form Content; and it was the recipient of the Telly Award for Best General News or Feature in 2019.

The Cablefax Programming Awards consider outlets and networks across platforms, diving deeply into specific categories that serve audiences throughout the world. This recognition honors the best programming in a particular niche, regardless of where the content originated or how consumers watch it.
