AccuWeather Global Weather Center - May 25, 2021 - The forecasts are out and the expert meteorologists at AccuWeather are predicting a more active than normal Atlantic hurricane season. To learn exactly what that means for people and businesses, the AccuWeather Network will debut its second annual AccuWeather Hurricane Season Special on Tuesday, June 1st at 8 pm EDT. The program will repeat on June 4th at 10 pm, June 5th at 9 am and June 6 at 8 pm, EDT.

AccuWeather Network’s annual Hurricane Season Special will feature AccuWeather’s lead hurricane forecaster Dan Kottlowski and welcome back Ken Graham, Director of the National Hurricane Center for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS). Viewers will also hear from New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Hurricane Katrina Incident Commander Col. Terry Ebbert (USMC ret.); and Collin Arnold, Director of Director of the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
Special segments include Nate Mook, CEO of Chef Jose Andre’s World Central Kitchen on their support of recovery efforts; WWL-TV (New Orleans) former lead meteorologist Carl Arredondo, the only television weather forecaster to stay on the air during Hurricane Katrina; dog trainer and social influencer Victoria Stilwell on pet safety; and Dr. Jeremy Porter, who leads research and development for First Street Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to defining America’s flood risk.
“AccuWeather is your partner for weather news and information and we're committed to getting our viewers the information they need to get prepared and stay safe," said AccuWeather Network Executive Producer Jim Proeller. "Our special presentation offers a complete 360-degree view of the upcoming hurricane season. Our team of meteorologists will have the latest forecasts and our reporters engage with a wide-ranging group of experts who will offer their perspectives on the impact of dangerous tropical weather. It's all part of our mission to provide practical, useful information to keep our audience hurricane-ready as the season approaches.”
This year’s hurricane season, which officially begins June 1st and continues through November, is expected to be more active than normal, but not as destructive as the 2020 hurricane season which yielded 30 named storms, 13 hurricanes and 6 major (Category 3 or higher) hurricanes, which AccuWeather estimated caused up to $60-$65 billion in total loss and economic damage. For 2021, AccuWeather is predicting 16-20 named storms, 7-11 hurricanes and 3-5 major hurricanes. Areas facing the greatest risk this year include the western and northern Gulf of Mexico, the entire state of Florida and the North Carolina coast.

People living in hurricane prone areas, business leaders who are concerned about staff safety and operations so they can manage losses, which often exceed millions of dollars, and weather enthusiasts with interest in tropical storms, and can tune into the national AccuWeather Network on Spectrum TV, DIRECTV, Verizon Fios and Frontier, the AT&TV Now app as well as FuboTV and Philo streaming services.
Proeller said as part of its “all weather, all the time” mission to save lives and help people prosper, the 24/7 award-winning AccuWeather Network will provide weather forecasts, warnings, news and comprehensive storytelling throughout the hurricane season, including compelling before, during and after the storm coverage, and beyond.
AccuWeather’s Hurricane Season Special will be available on accuweather.com immediately following the first airing.
