AccuWeather Global Weather Center, September 1, 2020 —AccuWeather today announced that distinguished Ernst & Young finance and media executive, Shannon O’Neill, has been tapped as its new Chief Financial Officer, reporting directly to Founder and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Joel N. Myers, effective immediately.
Based at AccuWeather headquarters in State College, PA, O’Neill will oversee all aspects of AccuWeather’s financial activities to promote steady growth over all areas of the business, including strategic and financial planning. O’Neill will serve as part of AccuWeather’s dynamic executive leadership team, driving business development objectives, including size and scope, as the company continues to grow as a leader in the global digital media space, helping to steer the overall financial mission and vision.
Prior to joining AccuWeather, O’Neill served as Managing Director, Media and Entertainment Consulting at Ernst & Young LLP, where he was the Global Client Lead for Broadcast, Cable and OTT Networks. His experience includes launching high-growth digital ventures at Comcast and Golf Channel, leading the programming and creative vision for Travel Channel, and managing operations and finance for the highly successful Scripps Networks portfolio. O’Neill is celebrated for his keen skills for business transformation, financial and performance management and customer relationship management.
“I am delighted to welcome Shannon, who brings a unique blend of cross-functional and cross- platform experience and vision to AccuWeather,” said Myers. “Shannon’s reputation speaks for itself, having been involved in complex business strategy at major television networks, successfully spearheading multimillion-dollar brand expansions, among his notable accolades. With a shared commitment to innovation and excellence, his experience will surely complement the other visionary leaders at AccuWeather working daily to ensure our global position as the world’s best known and most trusted weather brand.”
AccuWeather forecasts and warnings, recognized for their proven Superior Accuracy, reach more than 1.5 billion people worldwide through its popular apps, accuwather.com site and other properties across all digital and media platforms. The company also serves more than 1,600 radio, television and media clients and viewers through its 24/7 national AccuWeather Network channel. AccuWeather For Business, its B2B unit, currently serves more than half of the Fortune 500 companies and thousands of other businesses and government agencies globally.
Said O’Neill, “This is truly an extraordinary time to join one of the most well-respected global weather brands. Weather impacts just about everything we do and has a significant impact on the global economy each year. There is a tremendous amount of opportunity for growth, expansion and new innovative partnerships and applications, and I am thrilled to bring my experience to an organization that is continually transforming and setting itself apart as a clear leader.”
O’Neill succeeds current and longtime AccuWeather Board Director Ed Arditte, who stepped into the role as Chief Financial Officer at AccuWeather temporarily in 2018.
Arditte will transition to a part-time position within AccuWeather in October, which will allow him to spend more time with family. Within this capacity, as a long-term trusted advisor, Ed will continue helping to drive international business development, and he will continue to serve on the AccuWeather Board of Directors, which he joined in 2014.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Ed for his ongoing Board and financial stewardship, especially during these unprecedented times,” said Myers. “I rely on his great counsel, and I look forward to his continued leadership in his new role and on our Board of Directors.”
