AccuWeather Announces Launch of Coronavirus COVID-19 Tracker and Landing Page
Interactive mapping tool for insights and information surrounding multifaceted aspects of current COVID-19 pandemic
AccuWeather Global Weather Center, March 24, 2020 — In addition to its steady stream of Coronavirus (COVID-19) coverage, global weather and digital media leader AccuWeather today launched a new digital mapping tool and landing page, available on mobile and desktop platforms, as part of an effort to provide audiences and users with the most up-to-date, accurate information regarding the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
The map, which can be found at accuweather.com/coronavirus, provides users with an interactive display of the world and visualization of where the Coronavirus COVID-19 has spread. For the United States and China, users can see the number of cases, recoveries and deaths state-by-state, province-by-province. Similar in operation to AccuWeather’s weather maps, users can simply click on a country, state or province to access pinpoint data. To navigate to other regions throughout the world, clicking the top left button indicating plus (zoom in) and minus (zoom out) will either allow a user to zero in on a specific location or draw back to the larger image of the world. This information is updated daily from a pipeline of data from Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering’s (JHU CSSE) data repository and the World Health Organization (WHO).
“AccuWeather developed this tool so that our site visitors and app users have access to critical information during the COVID-19 pandemic while they are seeking the latest weather and news, including all content related to Coronavirus,” said AccuWeather President Steven, R. Smith. “This mapping tool and landing page, which is sourced by the most up-to-date data from John’s Hopkins University and WHO, equips users with necessary knowledge to remain safe and informed during this challenging time.”
The 24/7 national AccuWeather Network channel and AccuWeather.comrecognize the significance of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) story and how important key news updates are to our audience. Over the next several weeks, AccuWeather will continue to feature updates, which will include the latest news, events and information to help its audiences plan and take action, whether they are outside or inside. The AccuWeather research and expert team will pay close attention to weather-related information that help better explain how such things as temperature and humidity may affect the virus spread.
In addition to the innovative mapping tool, AccuWeather news stories and daily briefings will be available on AccuWeather’s Coronavirus landing page, offering users one convenient place to access all AccuWeather-produced content surrounding the pandemic, including expert analysis regarding weathers’ potential impact on the disease and key COVID-19 case statistics.
AccuWeather will continue to aggressively forecast significant weather events and cover important and breaking weather stories, long-range forecasts and the tornado season, as usual.
Currently, there are more than 367,000 cases of COVID-19 and 16,000 people have lost their lives. Weather and its potential impact on COVID-19 have remained a consistent focus since the outbreak of the disease, citing the opinions many worldwide experts and epidemiologists.
