Residents of Omaha, Nebraska, recorded as a severe thunderstorm swept through the city on July 31.

AccuWeather exclusively gave more advanced notice than any other source when damaging winds struck Omaha, Nebraska, on July 31.

AccuWeather Storm Warning meteorologists exclusively provided:

The Most Advance Notice:

AccuWeather Storm Warning meteorologists issued a life-saving SkyGuard® High Wind Warning, which exclusively provided 46 minutes of advance notice before the damaging winds initially moved into the Omaha area.

• As has been the case with many other situations, AccuWeather’s High Wind Warning provided 26 minutes of additional advance notice over the National Weather Service (NWS) and other known sources.

• This valuable additional advance notice, provided only by AccuWeather, enabled AccuWeather customers to be better prepared and offered valuable time for people to seek safe shelter ahead of the destructive winds.

Contact AccuWeather's Experts today to learn how AccuWeather's SkyGuard Warnings can help your business better prepare for all severe weather threats.

The Most Accurate Forecast of Destructive Winds:

AccuWeather Storm Warning meteorologists were the only source to most accurately warn that the thunderstorm's winds would gust to 90 mph.

• The NWS and other known sources issued a warning for only 80-mph winds, which may have resulted in some people and businesses being unprepared for the impact of the windstorm.  AccuWeather Storm Warning meteorologists warned of 90-mph wind gusts before the NWS and other known sources even issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the Omaha area for 70-mph winds!

The Best and Most Accurate Forecast for the Duration of Destructive Winds:

The destructive thunderstorm winds not only occurred as the thunderstorms commenced but also continued through the very end of the thunderstorms moving out of the area.

• AccuWeather Storm Warning meteorologists exclusively provided the best and most accurate forecast for the duration of the destructive winds.

• The NWS and other known sources allowed the Severe Thunderstorm Warning to expire at 6:15 p.m. CT. However, destructive winds of 81 mph continued to be reported in parts of Omaha at 6:15 p.m. CT, and damaging winds of 65 mph continued to be reported at 6:26 p.m. CT at the Omaha airport, 11 minutes after the NWS and other known sources allowed the Severe Thunderstorm Warning to expire, incorrectly indicating that according to the NWS, the threat of damaging winds was over.

• People and businesses not relying on AccuWeather’s warnings, but rather those from the NWS and other known sources may have easily been caught off guard by resuming operations or activities that may have been unsafe in such damaging winds.

A severe storm brought high winds that were strong enough to knock over this tree in Omaha, Nebraska, in front of a homeowner on July 31. The tree smashed right through the fence during its descent.

These examples are just some of the many weather events for which AccuWeather provided superior forecasts and impact descriptions to people, communities, and businesses, helping them better prepare and stay safe.

More than 100 times every year, AccuWeather has been documented as providing more accurate, more advance notification of significant and extreme weather events that impact businesses and threaten the health, welfare, and lives of individuals. AccuWeather has been proven to be the most accurate source of weather forecasts and warnings.

Contact AccuWeather's Experts today to learn how AccuWeather's SkyGuard Warnings can help your business better prepare for all severe weather threats.
