Flash floods and tornado damage from Arthur caused an estimated $4 billion to $6 billion in total damage and economic loss.

Between June 15-19, 2026, rounds of heavy rain from Tropical Storm Arthur impacted areas from Texas to Alabama. Over that five-day period, rainfall exceeded 10 inches in parts of the region, with some locations in central Louisiana receiving around 30 inches. The excessive rain caused roads to be closed, floodwater to inundate cars, homes and businesses, and people to be rescued and evacuated from rising water.

AccuWeather notifies customers that heavy rain can lead to flooding ahead of the National Weather Service (NWS) and all other known sources

On June 10, 2026, AccuWeather produced and disseminated a Storm Potential Outlook (SPO) to its AccuWeather for Business (AFB) customers that subscribe to the service, warning that heavy rainfall could lead to flooding from eastern Texas to western North Carolina the week of June 15, 2026. The SPO was sent to AFB customers between four and five days BEFORE the NWS and all other known sources issued flood watches within the threat area.

AccuWeather issues a track forecast for a developing Tropical Rainstorm ahead of the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and all other known sources

At 5 p.m., June 15, 2026, AccuWeather issued an Eye Path® forecast to customers for a developing tropical rainstorm expected to move across the western Gulf of America and bring widespread heavy rain and flooding from Texas to the southeastern United States over the coming days. This was 18 hours BEFORE the NHC and all other known sources issued a track and intensity forecast for what would become Tropical Storm Arthur.

AccuWeather’s forecasts provide better, more actionable descriptions to help keep people safer ahead of life-threatening flooding

As one of several such examples, on June 16, 2026, heavy rain from thunderstorms in and around the Houston, Texas, metropolitan area caused significant flash flooding. Roads became impassable, vehicles were stuck in the high water, and creeks flooded. Below is a summary of text forecasts for Houston, Texas, issued by AccuWeather and other sources on the morning of June 16, 2026, for that day.

AccuWeather: “Humid with a couple of showers and a heavy thunderstorm; watch for flash flooding”

Forecasts from other weather sources:

“Cloudy with occasional showers this afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible” and “Rainy in the morning and then mainly cloudy”

AccuWeather was the only source to provide language warning of the threat of flash flooding in Houston.

The day of June 18, 2026, featured rainfall of 2-4 inches per hour for several hours across parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Over 100 homes were flooded, and vehicles were swept away by rising floodwaters. Three days BEFORE the event, forecasts on AccuWeather’s consumer-facing app and website for locations across the impacted area warned that heavy rain would bring a “risk of significant flash flooding” and that those in the threat area should “watch for and avoid rapidly rising water.” AccuWeather’s more detailed description of the serious flooding risk compared with forecasts from other known sources enabled people to better prepare and stay safer.

Study after study has shown that AccuWeather provides more accurate and often earlier notifications with greater detail about significant and extreme weather events that affect businesses and threaten people’s health, welfare and lives. AccuWeather has proven to be the most trusted and most accurate source of weather forecasts and warnings.

This is another example of the more than 100 weather events each year in which AccuWeather forecasts with proven Superior Accuracy™ and clearer descriptions of weather impacts help people, communities and businesses better prepare and stay safer.

Why take unnecessary risks? Better protect your business before the next hurricane or tropical storm strikes. Contact AccuWeather For Business today and schedule a meeting to learn more about our Hurricane Warning ServiceTM.
