Severe storms to end days of harsh heat across Germany
Extreme heat and humidity will help fuel severe thunderstorms across Germany on Thursday.
Temperatures will soar across Germany with highs ranging from 29-34 C (84-94 F) during the midday and afternoon hours.
This heat, combined with moist air, will set the stage for thunderstorms to develop across western Germany during the late morning and early afternoon.
These storms could impact Bremen, Cologne and Dortmund.
Around 9:30 a.m. local time, storms moving through Fassberg produced wind gusts of 58 knots (65 mph).

Severe thunderstorms will become more widespread during the afternoon hours and advance eastward, impacting Frankfurt, Hanover and Hamburg.
“The storms will arrive in Berlin by the late afternoon and continue into the evening hours,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.
These storms will be capable of producing torrential downpours, damaging winds and hail.
“The strongest storms will be capable of producing a tornado from Dresden to Berlin late in the day,” added Roys.
The threat for severe weather will continue through the evening hours before shifting into Poland.
Southern Germany will dodge the worst of the weather; however, a few isolated thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening hours from Stuttgart to Munich.

Cooler air will follow in the wake of the storms following several days of extreme heat across parts of the country.
While temperatures will remain above normal throughout Germany from Friday into the weekend, it will still be significantly cooler than recent days.
Largely dry weather will prevail from Friday into Sunday. However, brief passing showers will be possible each day in central and northern Germany.
Temperatures will be similar each day with highs ranging from 21-26 C (70-78 F) in the north and 26-29 C (78-84 F) in the south.
