Persistent storm may lead to additional flash flooding in Turkey through late week
Unsettled weather in the form of showers and thunderstorms will continue across Turkey through the end of the week, extending the threat for flash flooding.
A lingering upper-level storm system will continue to stir up showers and thunderstorms each day this week through Friday.
Most of the activity will only bring a brief downpour but can still be enough to cause delays or cancellations in outdoor plans.

There can be localized heavier and slow-moving downpours that sit over the same area for an extended period of time, especially in the mountains.
This can cause large amounts of water to be funneled into valleys, leading to flash flooding. Residents and motorists will need to be on alert.
A similar situation occurred over the weekend in Ankara’s Mamak district. Heavy rain in a short amount of time turned streets into raging rivers with cars getting swept away.
According to the Associated Press, the torrential flooding damaged more than 160 cars and 25 businesses and also left several injured.
The greatest risk for downpours will be during the afternoon and early evening each day through the end of the week.
Motorists may encounter bursts of rain that can reduce visibility and lead to dangerous driving conditions.
In addition to flash flooding, some of the storms could produce small hail.
A cold front will begin to sweep across Turkey from north to south over the weekend.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to threaten the southern half of Turkey, but the arrival of drier air in the wake of the front will eliminate the threat across the north.
