New cold stretch underway, but warmer again after midweek
The cold has returned, but it won't be as harsh as before and won't last as long as the last cold spell was. There will be at least one opportunity for ice and snow over parts of the South before it warms up again. It looks as though longer-lasting warmth will begin later next week.
A generally quiet regime will be in place until Wednesday, even though sunshine will be limited in many places by high clouds streaming in from the Pacific. Things change at midweek as a new storm system takes shape...
