Frostbite Falls
The cartoon town modeled on International Falls, Minn., gets an appropriate mention today after another frosty night across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest. The cold air behind the front that will push into the Northeast today will bring frost back tonight.
A northwest wind will add to the autumnlike weather today with temperatures topping out in the 50s across the Dakotas, Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The Severe Weather Center lists the frost and freeze warnings in effect today.
The chill arrived Thursday. The high in Dickinson, N.D. was 50 degrees, 35 degrees below the high of 85 degrees Wednesday. Meanwhile, storms developed in Minnesota and Wisconsin, producing large hail in a number of centers.
The jet stream this weekend will retreat into Canada, allowing warm air to return to the Plains.
