Can you predict the next heat wave? Play AccuWeather's Forecaster Challenge to test your skills

AccuWeather’s Forecaster Challenge, a unique game where users can test their ability to predict the weather, has expanded its game play capabilities to include temperature prediction.

Upon launch, the game allowed users to make predictions based on rainfall, snowfall and hurricane landfall. Now, players can predict what the high temperature will be on a specific day for more than 80 cities across the United States.

Users can predict what they think the high temperature will be for a certain city at least three days in advance. Players can make multiple predictions for each city.

forecaster challenge temperature

For instance, if a player is making a prediction for any given day for Philadelphia, they can pick a temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit and a temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit. They can also make predictions for other cities for that same day.

Players can hover over a city location on the map to see how many predictions have already been placed, which temperature is the most popular and where the city ranks in terms of number of predictions submitted.

Each temperature prediction will cost 1,000 AccuDollars with a potential payout that could be up to 1,500 or 2,000 AccuDollars or even more. That payout amount varies based on the number of predictions made for that temperature and across all cities for that day.

When participants sign up for the first time, they will receive 25,000 AccuDollars, which have no intrinsic value and are only used to measure success within the game. But starting Aug. 1, players will be able to convert their AccuDollars to real cash.

Players earn more AccuDollars for making correct predictions but lose the AccuDollars they spend if predictions are incorrect. Users are also rewarded with 3,000 AccuDollars just by logging in every six hours.

Users can play as a "guest" but will need to register in order to see and keep track of current or past predictions.

All current predictions can be viewed on the My Predictions tab at the top of the Forecaster Challenge page. This will also show past predictions and how many AccuDollars were received from the predictions.

What do YOU think will happen? Do you see a heat wave building for select cities in the game? Or, select locations on the map where you think there may be rainfall or the next hurricane landfall. If you are right, watch your AccuDollar balance increase.

Don't wait, play today to start accumulating AccuDollars. Beginning Aug. 1, players will be able to convert their AccuDollars to real cash.

To sign up, simply visit forecasterchallenge.accuweather.com and begin making your first weather predictions in minutes. You can also visit the help page for more information about how it works.
