A warmer week leads to severe storms

By Frank Strait, AccuWeather senior meteorologist

Published Oct 28, 2018 11:24 PM EDT | Updated Oct 28, 2018 11:24 PM EDT

It has turned chilly across most of the South but warmer air returned to areas west of the Mississippi over the weekend and the warmth will spread east during the first part of the week. This warm spell will last a few days. But starting at midweek another cold front will move through the region with strong upper level support. With very warm air feeding into the storm from the tropics, there will be a risk for severe storms including a few tornadoes as the front pushes across the South. Behind the front, chilly air returns, but only briefly. It looks as though we're heading into a back-and-forth weather pattern during the first part of November. Out in the tropics, we have Hurricane Oscar to track in the Atlantic but it won't threaten any land as a tropical system. In the Pacific, there are a couple of areas to watch for development.
