Winds gusting over 100 mph in the West

By Jesse Ferrell, AccuWeather meteorologist and senior weather editor

UPDATE 4/28:Boulder, CO also just gusted to 124 mph Wednesday morning. Mammoth Chair 1 gusted to 139 mph but the sustained wind speeds are a little suspect. The 116 mph at Mammoth Top looks more reasonable.

ORIGINAL STORY: Credit to AccuWeather.com's Marc Mancuso for pointing this out to me -- winds are gusting well over 100 mph in the high mountains of Washington, California and Nevada this morning as the latest storm system slams the area. Below is a list and a graph from Slide Mountain, California:

Slide Mountain, CA: 132 mph*
Mammoth Mountain, CA: 114 mph
Hickison Summit, NV: 114 mph
Hurricane, WA: 105 mph
Mount Rose, NV: 93 mph
Washoe, NV: 92 mph
Mount Ranier, WA: 92 mph

The highest winds have been in the Sierra Nevada -- the Lake Tahoe / Reno / Carson City area -- though winds also gusted to 77 mph at Silver Lake and 76 mph at Summer Lake, Oregon. Trees were knocked down between Eugene and Portland.

Unsourced reports above are from NWS Spotter reports. *Previously reported as 120 mph by the NWS last night.
