Winds gusting over 100 mph in the West
UPDATE 4/28:Boulder, CO also just gusted to 124 mph Wednesday morning. Mammoth Chair 1 gusted to 139 mph but the sustained wind speeds are a little suspect. The 116 mph at Mammoth Top looks more reasonable.
ORIGINAL STORY: Credit to AccuWeather.com's Marc Mancuso for pointing this out to me -- winds are gusting well over 100 mph in the high mountains of Washington, California and Nevada this morning as the latest storm system slams the area. Below is a list and a graph from Slide Mountain, California:
Slide Mountain, CA: 132 mph*
Mammoth Mountain, CA: 114 mph
Hickison Summit, NV: 114 mph
Hurricane, WA: 105 mph
Mount Rose, NV: 93 mph
Washoe, NV: 92 mph
Mount Ranier, WA: 92 mph
The highest winds have been in the Sierra Nevada -- the Lake Tahoe / Reno / Carson City area -- though winds also gusted to 77 mph at Silver Lake and 76 mph at Summer Lake, Oregon. Trees were knocked down between Eugene and Portland.
