Morning news on damage from Hurricane Wilma in Mexico's Yucatan and Cozumel island) is hard to come by. Most of the news stories are U.S. centric and are quoting the NHC's wind stats and assuming that massive damage has occurred, ala Katrina's hit on the U.S. Surely it must have, especially on Cozumel island, whose eastern front took on hours and hours of intense eyewall winds (see satellite shot at bottom). Canadian TV (CBC) reports:
"The streets of Cancun are like moving rivers," said CBC reporter Connie Watson. "The first three stories of many hotels are submerged in water.
CNN has some decent video from Friday showing flooding and damage, courtesy Mexico's RTV.
NASA has added some pretty cool close-up views of Wilma from the International Space Station and has some ho-hum stuff from their satellites too.
A store sign lays grounded after being knocked down as Hurricane Wilma approached the area on Friday Oct. 21, 2005, in Cancun, Mexico. Hurricane Wilma wobbled toward Mexico's Cancun resort and Florida on Wednesday, an 'extremely dangerous' storm that has already killed 12 people in the Caribbean and was labeled the most intense ever to form in the Americas.
