V-Blog: Animations Of The Texas MCS

Several of you have asked to find out more about last night's MCS (Mesoscale Convective System), which AccuWeather believes was classified as an MCC (Mesoscale Convective Complex). On the video blog below I step through the radar animation to see how the storms evolved and take a quick look at animated lightning and advisories during the MCC.

An MCC is a kind of MCS that might contain an MCV or DERECHOS.

Here's also an Enhanced Infrared Satellite animation from AccuWeather.com. Notice the colors turn to purple, meaning that the clouds have reached extreme heights and are below -100 degrees Fahrenheit.

At 1:15 in the morning, the MCC was at peak intensity with the cloud deck covering most of Kansas, Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. (Reminder: MCC's are most powerful overnight thanks to energy from low-level jet streams which setup after sunset.)
