Shawn Storm Chase Day 3: Missouri Storms?

By Jesse Ferrell, AccuWeather meteorologist

UPDATE: Below are some 3-D radar loops from Google Earth showing the supercell thunderstorm passing over Shawn's location, then a radar reflectivity (precipitation intensity) and velocity loop when his vehicle had moved southward out of the storm. As you can see, the intense core of the storm passed right over them. I just talked to Shawn on the phone and he confirmed that it got a little dicey as darkness fell, the storm moved over them, and they lost their Internet connection temporarily. They saw hail 1/2 inch in diameter and high winds. Radar Loops from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus are also available for you to download* here.

NOTE: NO AUDIO; VIDEO MAY HAVE ADS; VIDEOS NOT AVAILABLE ON WIRELESS DEVICESUPDATE: From the the Spotter Tracker Network at 9 PM Eastern, a hail report of 1.75" trails behind a supercell that it looks like Shawn is pursuing in northern Arkansas (see screencap from Spotter Tracker and also Missouri Radar Loop).UPDATE: Here is Shawn's Day 4 report from this afternoon... hopefully there will be more later tonight as storms have started up in Missouri.

At 3 PM, the Spotter Tracker Network showed Shawn's vehicle south of Kansas City, in prime position for the Slight Risk of severe storms issued by the SPC today. Stay tuned later tonight to see if he encounters additional storms.
