HAUNTINGLY FAMILIAR: A PHOTO I TOOK
OF FLOODING NEAR CRABTREE VALLEY
MALL DURING HURRICANE FRAN IN 1996
WRAL-TV in Raleigh is reporting that the Crabtree Valley Mall is now closed due to flooding and more than 3,200 people have lost power. Flooding has closed various roads throughout the city and the State Fairgrounds is also flooded. One-hour precip totals have neared 3 inches per hour in some spots (see movie below).
Worse, severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings are now being issued for the area.
Below is a shot from 12:45 p.m. via AccuWeather.com RadarPlus, showing storm-total Doppler-estimated precipitation out of the Raleigh radar. Flood warnings (blue) and watches (light blue) and severe thunderstorm warnings (yellow) are shown on top of the radar image.
