Meteor Fireball Thrills Midwest, Caught on Radar

A meteor thrilled residents of the Midwest last night around 10 PM CDT. The videos of the fireball were very impressive:

According to the National Weather Service at Davenport (Quad Cities), it was large enough that the smoke trail was caught on radar (something I have never seen before). Here is a radar image from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus:

The NWS went on to say "The fireball was seen across Northern Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Southern Wisconsin. Several reports of a prolonged sonic boom were received from areas north of Highway 20, along with shaking of homes, trees and various other objects including wind chimes." Their neighboring local office in La Crosse, Wisconsin offers more commentary and additional radar images, including one in 3-D.

Did the meteor hit the ground? The jury's still out but there have been no reports of meteorites yet, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
