Images of Iselle
It was a long night at AccuWeather HQ as our forecasters predicted the future of Hurricane Iselle and our news writers and video broadcasters brought the news of the first tropical cyclone to hit Hawaii (the big island) in over 20 years. It was certainly something that hadn't happened in the Internet era and I had never blogged on the subject before.
But it was an even longer night for the people on the big island. According to our live blog, winds gusted to 72 mph and thousands lost power, many just as the storm bands began to appear on radar! As of 8 AM HST (2 PM ET) over 14 inches of rain reported in Hawaii from Tropical Storm Iselle in rain gauges (so far). UPDATE: Totals exceeded 15 inches. This is a Doppler estimate which is missing the NW quadrant because the radar beam can't see over the mountains:
