HYPE: GFS Says Snow From Canada to Gulf
With all eyes on Tropical Storm Noel, many have missed the latest hype from the GFS computer model, which (even this morning's relatively-sane 12Z run) is predicting a Mississippi Valley snowstorm of historical proportions, that will bring sleet and snow all the way into the Gulf of Mexico on November 11th-12th:
According to the forecast, temperatures will fall below 20 in Tennessee, and there will be accumulating snow in the Deep South with up to 10 inches in the Midwest:
Although there will be some heavy snow in the western Appalachians, the large low pressure system over the Ohio Valley will cause strong southern winds on the East Coast which will keep most of the precipitation as rain.
Of course, no other forecast models go out that far, so there's no second opinion. But, I think it speaks to the general idea of our Winter Forecast which, though predicting an overall warm winter, warned of an unusually cold November.
