Hawaii's long March of heavy rain
Published Mar 15, 2021 7:01 PM EDT | Updated Jun 21, 2021 5:53 PM EDT
March 2021 was a long month for Hawaii. You can see every tweet I did on the Hawaii rainfall in this month's WeatherMatrix Newsletter on Revue.
Of course, it rains a lot in Hawaii, but limited areas see over 20 inches (blues on the map below) in a normal March:

In March 2021, most of the airports (except Honolulu) got close to, or over 10 inches of rain:
Hilo Airport: 24.99"
Lihue Airport: 11.89"
Kahului Airport: 9.78" (their record wettest March is only 10.90")
All told, the top 3 USGS station rainfall totals for the month of March 2021 were:
111.71" at Mt. Waialeale near Lihue, HI
50.38" at West Wailuaki near Keanae, HI
46.77" at Puu Kukui near Maui

It started out with snow on the first day of Meteorological Spring.
By March 10, 2 to 3 feet of rain had fallen in several locations in as many days.
Even after that, the rain continued. Check out all the tweets I sent about the Hawaii rainfall in this month's WeatherMatrix Newsletter on Revue.
