AP Pulls Fake Tornado Video
UPDATE: Blog readers left comments below and have given us a link to the original video, including an apology from a station that broadcasted it. Thanks guys!
The news article accompanying the video says that the accused chaser denies the claim. It's hard to see much in the low-resolution video, though I note with interest that
the clouds are moving quickly, not just the funnel.
ORIGINAL REPORT:
The Associated Press has pulled a tornado video purchased from a storm chaser after another chaser told them it was faked, and in fact was a video he took years ago, edited to reverse the direction of the tornado and tweak the landscape, and sped up.
All I can say is that I wish I could have seen this before it disappeared from the Net, I would have loved to have taken a look at it. If you saw it, or by some miracle have found a copy online, leave me a Comment below. Yahoo has a couple of still captures pulled from it (which I can't show here because the images are copyright).
The sad thing is that, even without altering the landscape, AP probably wouldn't have noticed it, not being familiar with past chase video or even what a tornado should look like. Storm Chaser Warren Faidley says that attempts to get previous year's footage through the media have been frequent this year...

Better look quick though because it is on a local CBS channel, they'll probably take it down soon.

Jesse, I found it on this site below. Being a meteorology student I really wanted to see the video also. It should be the first video that plays.

The fake video has been taken off every news site that covered the story, I checked and ran multiple searches for it but could find nothing. What I did find, Jesse, is the original video of a tornado that touched down in Rock, Kansas is 2004 that was altered and sold to the Associated Press.
If you haven't seen it yet, it's here
