Southern Plains to simmer, last break from the heat for a while in the Southeast
Hot and dry weather has returned to Texas and that will expand over the next couple of days. Meanwhile, another front will push into the Southeast. This will bring much of that area a cooldown and a return to unsettled weather. This will be the last break for a while, though, as the hot air over the nation's midsection will expand eastward next week. The worst goes 'over the top' but the Southeast will still simmer. In the tropics, the Pacific is getting more active again while the Atlantic stays quiet for at least a week. But, a couple of tropical waves will play a role in the weather across the South over the next week.
