Levenhuk Telescopes and Binoculars

Accuweather Astronomy friend Ronald Shawley recently tested out several pieces of equipment from Levenhuk. They offer a wide variety of telescopes that are great for beginners, and experienced backyard astronomers.

For centuries humans have tried to look into the farthest corners of the reachable space: Moon, Solar System and beyond. Time has passed and we have gone far, but we still know little. Yet the interest never fades away, with telescopes being probably the only instruments at our aid. Join the greatest minds of humankind in their adventures through the mysteries of our grand universe! During the months ahead we will review the various optical products manufactured by Levenhuk. We also are going to be show casing the expert telescopes that are fantastic.
Scroll below for video links showcasing some of their finest scopes and binoculars. The below information highlights types of telescopes, optics, etc. For more information go to the Levenhuk website

Telescopes on Alt-azimuth (AZ) MountsIt's a simple mount with two perpendicular axes of rotation: the vertical (height) and horizontal (azimuth). An example of such mounts is a tripod. Because of simplicity they are best suited for compact or low-weighted tools.
Telescopes on Equatorial (EQ) MountsThe EQ mount has two perpendicular axes: right ascension axis (or polar) and the declination axis. The mount is able to easily follow the diurnal motion of the sky. It has the coordinate circles (scales) on the axes that allow finding the object in the sky by its coordinates.
Telescopes on GoTo MountsGoTo mounts can be AZ or EQ type. They have computerized drive systems on both axes, easy-to-use controls, and automatic navigation allowing you to observe objects without having to spend time checking astronomical charts.
Telescopes on Dobsonian MountsDobsonian mount is shaped like a box and is often installed on the ground without a tripod. These mounts are reliable, easy to assemble and control. Dobsonian telescopes are also easy to transport, which makes them great for suburban stargazing. Dobsonian mounts are incredibly hardy and able to work with the giant Newtonian reflectors. Simple design and affordable price make Dobsonian telescopes very popular among amateur astronomers.
TableTop TelescopesThis section includes compact telescope models installed on Tabletop tripods. A Tabletop tripod features small size and light weight, which makes it the best companion for campouts and trips. These characteristics are also beneficial for small children – they can carry these instruments without parents’ help. Despite their compactness and lightness, they are very sturdy and reliable and provide a stable platform for the instrument.
RefractorsA refracting telescope is a type of optical telescope that uses a lens as its objective. In our online store you can find a wide range of refractors with two, three of four lenses. The main advantages of this type of telescope are a wide field of view, minimal light scattering, and easy optics cleaning. Refractors are best suited for urban observations since they successfully cope with urban flare.
ReflectorsReflecting telescopes use a single or a combination of curved mirrors to collect and focus light. The primary mirror can be parabolic (large diameter of the lens) or spherical (small diameter of the lens). These telescopes produce contrast images in true color with no chromatic aberrations. Reflectors are perfect for planetary observations as well as for studying deep-sky objects.
Catadioptric TelescopesThe catadioptric telescopes use both lenses and curved mirrors in their optical system. The primary mirror forms an image and the lenses are designed to correct it. Indisputable advantages of these telescopes are the large aperture and the large field of view, and at the same time they are very compact. All these features make them very popular among amateur stargazers. Telescopes of Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design is one of the most popular and well-known telescope designs. These telescopes have a complex optical design that includes both lenses and mirrors – it combines the advantages of refractors and reflectors in one instrument. This optical design was developed in 1940 in Russia and since then Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes have been in great demand among stargazers all over the world. Maksutov telescopes produce high-quality, detailed views of observed objects, have a long focal length (high magnification) and at the same time have a compact optical tube size that is very convenient. Moreover, unlike refractors, Maksutov telescopes produce exceptionally sharp views with good contrast and no chromatic aberrations. In our online store you can find a wide range of telescopes of Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design. Thanks to all the features mentioned above, these telescopes are ideally suited to amateur stargazers. The telescopes of Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design are perfect for planetary observations, viewing nebulae or double stars.
Levenhuk BinocularsObservation of distant objects with the aid of optical devices has always been a popular hobby. Binoculars, because of their simplicity and universality, have become one of the most beloved optical instruments for that purpose. These binoculars work great for storm chasing and night viewing.
