Weekly update on the long-range weather pattern
Signals are stronger than normal for a significant ridge of high pressure just off the west coast of B.C. through at least mid-October, which will lead to a fairly dry pattern for B.C. and mild as well.
This also keeps cold air funneling south through the Prairies and into the northern U.S. Plains with opportunities for some snow in the eastern Prairies and Northwest Ontario.
Persistent southwesterly flow aloft from the Great Lakes into the East allows for moisture to be directed into the region from time to time as ridge of high pressure over western Atlantic and southeastern U.S. holds ground. Cold fronts that come into the East would likely weaken and slow running into the southwest flow.
This pattern also argues for a delayed frost and freeze in eastern areas that have not had one as of yet.
