Snow Map for Quebec and New Brunswick
The combination of an approaching front and a storm moving northeast along the front will lead to a period of snow and mixed precipitation across Quebec and parts of New Brunswick Friday night into Saturday.
The precipitation will be more rain than snow/mix across southern New Brunswick due to the southeast flow ahead of the front.
Expect a general 2-6 cm in the Montreal area with some sleet and ice also possible and 4-8 cm in Quebec City, with slightly higher amounts (8-12 cm) in the higher elevations to the east and northwest.
**Expect mild, Pacific air to flood across western Canada next week as the Arctic air retreats far to the north. There may be some resistance to the warmup as you go farther east later next week with some brief shots of colder, low-level air.
The latest ECMWF forecast model continues to trend stronger and farther west with a coastal storm near New England Tuesday and Tuesday night next week. Other U.S. models are still much weaker and farther east, which is not a surprise at this early point. The Canadian model shows a potent storm along the Middle Atlantic coast of the U.S. that briefly stalls then tracks east into the Atlantic.
Strictly based on the ECMWF solution, there would be the potential for a significant snowfall event later Tuesday into early Wednesday over eastern Quebec, northern Maine and perhaps into northern New Brunswick.
Anyway, this is certainly something that we will monitor closely over the next few days. I will keep you posted.
