Northeast dry this week except for midweek showers
Hurricane Dorian and has been the center of attention since late last week, and it caused weekend devastation in the Bahamas with its extreme wind and untamed seas. Although it was no threat to the Northeast at the time, concerned and curious people everywhere we're looking for they latest information about the storm. Many of you use the AccuWeather app for tracking your hometown or travel-plans weather. The radar pictures are especially helpful when looking at the details of the nearby showers and thunderstorms and assessing where they're going. However, one of the strengths of the radar display is how you can look at the same level of detail for places far distant from your location. The picture below represents a radar image from Florida into the Bahamas this morning. Note that the storm did not display a closed circular eye at this time.
When a hurricane stalls, its strong winds can really stir up the ocean beneath it. This process can cause cooler water from greater depths to reach the surface. This cooling can cause the storm to weaken. Sometimes such a storm can strengthen again when it picks up speed and passes over warmer water.
The key to finding and using hurricane and tropical storm information on the app is pressing the button in the lower left corner of the screen. This is a new feature In the app. You can see the button in the picture below:
The next map shows predicted conditions tomorrow afternoon across the Northeast. A weak cold front will cross the area, setting off showers and a couple of thunderstorms that probably will not last long at most places.
The high pressure area in the Midwest that you see above will move east and northeast during next few days. The following map shows that high pressure area centered over eastern Canada with a ridge extending to the Tennessee Valley as well as a forecast for Dorian getting ready to pass east of New England on Friday night. Dorian's path has been difficult to forecast precisely, and there is no assurance this problem is over.
